Netherdale breeds and nurtures high performing stock at the very highest level, we specialise in Red Deer and Wiltshire sheep.
Established in 1881 by William Cowie, Netherdale has evolved from a windy, virgin land into a thriving agricultural hub. Over the generations, from William to his son James and grandson Henderson Stevens, the farm has faced challenges and embraced opportunities, transforming into a renowned deer farming operation.
In 1982, David and Lynley Stevens took over Netherdale, shifting the focus from sheep to deer and pioneering advancements in deer genetics. In 2008 we also started a Wiltshire sheep stud while continuing to grow our deer genetics. The 1980s saw exciting developments such as AI, Embryo transfer, and Embryo splitting, positioning Netherdale at the forefront of the deer industry.
David and Lynley Stevens' four decades of dedication to the New Zealand Deer Farmers Association, including his presidency and numerous awards, underscore Netherdale's commitment to excellence. We invite you to explore our rich history and innovative practices, and discover the finest in velvet and sheep genetics at Netherdale.
